Welcome OP to EVE Online, as you have discovered Goons should never ever be trusted. The only people they recruit are from their outside community and those who someone that is already a member vouches for, if you're new and neither of these apply to you do not trust a word they say. Also if you are a new player please be aware that they maintain alts in many of the starter corps for various highsec puposes, if you suspect an npc corp member is a Goon alt do not conduct business with these characters or volunteer any information about your activities or income, doing so will put you on their radar and mark you for future scamming should you prove profitable enough.
And for those claiming that Goons don't scam I say that you are liars, during my second week I was asking around the in game recruitment channel about a corp to join and a Goon responded trying to get me to pay a 500mil isk "deposit" to join. Naturally not being a complete moron I told this "recruiter" to kiss my pasty ass and I've been an adamant Goon hater ever since.

Maybe thats CCP's idea of keeping things balanced.

Its not that I don't feel a lot of rage over this, its just that I see this same crap happen in real life all the time, so why should I expect anything to be done about it in a video game?

Actually, I'm pretty sure the rules around scamming people is such that outright telling people to buy a PLEX so you can scam it out of them is utterly forbidden. this Unless you're a member of one of the various nullsec mega alliances like the Goons, apparently they're above the rules because I know for a fact they do this and get away with it.

This claim is demonstrably false because you were never in the recruitment channel. Lose the 'i'm a new player guys!' gimmick because you're not. If its "demonstrably false" I encourage you to please "demonstrabe" it. Otherwise stfu Goon because I for one am glad this topic exists to warn new players of the potential danger you and your alliance mates represent to them.
